NCPBA Looks to Form New State Chapter at

Telecommunicator Conference

NC Division and Cary Chapter Leaders Sign Up New Members

The NCPBA recently served as a sponsor at the 5th annual Telecommunicator conference held at the North Carolina Justice Academy April 1st through April 3rd. This initiative came through the Cary Chapter board and Vice President Rick Thomas who is an Emergency Communications Officer. The Cary Chapter board was supportive of the idea in sponsoring the conference to assist Telecommunicators in starting their own statewide Chapter through membership in the PBA. Telecommunicators currently aren’t provided any legal benefits or personnel lobbying abilities through any association that they belong to. Cary Chapter President and NCPBA Legislative Chairperson Randy Byrd was given time to speak during the second day of the conference on April 2nd. He emphasized his appreciation for the job that telecommunicators do along with highlighting the various benefits that the PBA offers. Those in attendance were directed to a sponsor table in the Learning Resource Center. This interaction with the PBA led to numerous telecommunicators becoming members during the conference. Rick Thomas will be working during the next few months to develop a steering committee in hopes of forming a statewide Chapter.
