The Foundation scholarship is available to any student pursuing a degree in criminal justice. Rollin’s desire to be one of the first to do a “ride along” with the Hazen P.D. was an indication of his long abiding interest in a career in law enforcement – a career he plans to pursue at the University of Central Arkansas. To assist him in the pursuit of a degree in criminal justice, the Foundation awarded Jacob a $1,000 scholarship. The presentation was in keeping with the industrious student’s achievements and career aspirations. A creative table centerpiece featured handcuffs, a CSI evidence vial, and a CSI book. Arkansas PBA President Robert Henderson and Chapter President Ken Barton, as well as Hazen’s Chief of Police Scot Strong greeted guests and delivered the presentation address. Guests included Jacob’s family, his grandparents, his high school principal, and Hazen District Judge James Rhodes, as well as members of the community and local press. In addition to maintaining a 3.65 grade point average at Hazen High, Jacob also took college courses including college speech, college algebra, freshman English and world civics during his senior year. He was also involved in numerous extra-curricular activities and community service programs. Foundation Executive Director Marlon Trone stated, “We are proud to encourage Jacob’s pursuit of a career in criminal justice in this small way.” He continued, “With the assistance of our many supporters, we look forward to boosting our scholarship funds in the future to assist more students like him.” The Police Benevolent Foundation congratulates and salutes Jacob Rollins for his outstanding achievements and wishes him the best as he pursues his career in criminal justice. A special word of thanks goes to Ken Barton and the Delta Chapter and to Robert Henderson for making the presentation event possible. |
